Workshop ‘Eighty Eight’ by Ben Ellis

“Critically acclaimed playwright and television writer Ben Ellis has recently completed writing attachments in New York City, Paris and National Theatre Studio London, where he now lives. A trained anthropological historian, Ellis is most famous for his provocative award winning Australian plays FALLING PETALS and THESE PEOPLE. In the UK he has successful productions of 50 WAYS TO LEAVE YOUR LOVER, Co-written for the Bush Theatre and the Latitude festival 2008, with tour including Oxford Playhouse and Norwich Playhouse, THE FINAL SHOT and POET NO.7 at Theatre 503.”

Bens play ‘Eighty Eight’ was selected in the final ten of the ‘Bruntwood Award’ and I am very excited to be part of the next stage in its development.

Over the course of a week we will workshop the play and Ben will be in Rehearsals redrafting. The process will be a highly creative one and the actors will be asked to take part in improvisation as well as text work. The process will work towards a workshop performance to an invited audience. The actors will be welcome to invite a select number of people to this.

Actors Required:

Character Breakdowns

The four protagonists are young working class Londoners.

Kid – a troubled, 16 year old with mental health problems living in a hostel

Steph – a naive somewhat simple and plain 16 year old girl

Mel – an attractive, streetwise 16 year old girl

Flash - a young man in his early twenties, used to be a kid in a hostel but now works as a support officer

2 older male actors needed to play various character roles of Doctor, social worker, and various others

We are looking to use actors in their early twenties for the young characters.

The dates are the 11th – 16th May with a performance taking place on Tuesday 19th May. All the rehearsals and the performance will be held at RADA which is in central London.
