Calling All Artists - Wasted Spaces

The Concept
Wasted Spaces is a brand new arts initiative, taking art outside of the museum walls. The project puts art in vacant shop fronts on high street locations, transforming empty and unloved spaces into exciting art experiences. Empty shop fronts, neglected commercial windows and other unloved spaces will be cleaned up, and turned into a platform for young and emerging artists to showcase their work. By taking art outside of the museum and gallery walls, traditional barriers between art and audience will be broken, and this gives artists the chance to present their work to an entirely new public.
The Wasted Spaces team is currently on the hunt for artists with a hunger for exposure. We're open to artists from any discipline: sculpture, photography, painting, printmaking, illustration, installation, graphic design, video, and more. Wherever possible we try to place artists in spaces that are local to them.
Selected artists will receive:
- free exhibition space
- exposure to a huge audience at busy high street locations
- international press exposure
Current project: Wasted Spaces Brent
Wasted Spaces has a project underway on the high streets of London Borough of Brent. It is funded and supported by Brent council with the objective to create several Wasted Spaces installations. All participating artists will receive free exhibition space and funding. If you are an artist please send examples of your work to proposals@wastedspaces.org
The submissions deadline for the Brent project is Sunday March 1st 2009.
