Volunteer Gallery Sitters

A group of South London based creatives have acquired a disused Apollo video hire shop on the Norwood Road in Herne Hill for the month in June 2009.  With crucial backing of the Herne Hill Traders Association and local Councils, the Apollo Video Store will be home to a creative festival of art, film, music and performance provided by local talent and high profile artists.

Decay on the high street during this period of recession is creeping into our communities. Rather than sit by and watch the broken glass syndrome take over, we are committed to using this space to attract visitors from near and far to the area.

The Apollo strikes back! VHS, popcorn and old-fashioned good will is alive in full technicolour glory on the streets of Herne Hill, South London.

We are Looking for volunteers to staff the shop on a daily basis from 10am-2pm or 2pm-7pm. We would like to encourage art students to become involved as we see it as a great opportunity for them to work in an creative exhibition space, also to work with artists, film makers, musicians.

The Haunch of Venison artist Keith Coventry will preview his work on 6th -7th June, Sarwat Chadda a prize winning writer will run writing workshops, Julene Harrison textile designer and papercut artist will also be showing her work.

We would like those who volunteer to create work (perhaps document the space throughout the time), this will then be exhibited at the Apollo Project space.

Please email: annette636@btinternet.com

We look forward to working with you
