JewellerWhat have you been up to since leaving UAL?
I was the winner of the New Designers 2007, The Argos Award, shortly after graduation. This allowed me to work for Argos to complete one collection with them. I received a lot of great feedback and requests for my work, which allowed me to launch my own brand that I work on fulltime. (www.ulrikkevogt.com) I try never to say no and to reach new goals each year. One of this year’s goals was to exhibit in the Inhorgenta Jewellery Fair in Munich, Germany, which I did this spring.
What, if anything, would you do differently?
I would take more holidays. I really haven’t stopped since I graduated. I am trying to work hard now to lay a good foundation for my brand.
Did you feel prepared when you graduated?
Not really, but I don’t know anything that could have prepared me to work in a big corporation. I like hands-on experience and believe you just have to experience something for yourself to be fully prepared for it.
What would be your advice to a student graduating now?
Don’t panic! Just expect the process to take longer, either launching your own brand or applying to work for someone else.
