SomethingBritish.com
The store is to be called Something British, and would offer the same ease-of-use and superior service as sites such as Asos.com, but stock only clothing made by British designers. The person behind the clothing will be a big component of the site, with a journal featuring interviews, a page for each designer, and opportunities for them to be promoted in the press.
I envision using two collections per designer annually (AW and SS), with a collection consisting of up to fifteen different pieces. The business model would work on a consignment basis. Unsold items will be returned after an agreed time frame, with the option for these to be promoted on sale. A full contract will be signed before any items are handed over, and both myself and the designer will work together to select each collection, thus ensuring it that complements the store's collection for that season, as well as showcases the designer's talent. All items will always remain copyright of the designer and not the website.
I believe this would be an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience in online retail as well as exposure for their designs, and would easily fit alongside other full time work commitments.
I am looking primarily for RTW womenswear and jewellery designers. At this stage I am not looking to stock men's fashion or shoes, however this is likely to be included in the near future. From those interested, I would require the following:
- detailed sample images of at least five items
- a description of your style and influences
- the quantity of each item you would be able to supply easily
- contact details and designer/label name
All submissions will be reviewed by myself and my investors. I will endeavour to contact all students to let them know if we would like to work with them. I will be more than happy to provide students with more information on the store, including designs and branding, after their initial submission.
Preferred contact method by students: wendyvandeweg@gmail.com
