PhotoPhilanthropy's Activist Award

Details of the brief

PhotoPhilanthropy promotes and connects photographers with non-profit organizations around the world to tell the stories that drive action for social change. The PhotoPhilanthropy website provides a space for photographers, photo enthusiasts and non-profits to come together for collaboration, inspiration, and action. Each photographer whose work is accepted receives a page on our website and exposure to a growing audience of concerned and committed global citizens. The PhotoPhilanthropy Activist Award identifies outstanding work done by photographers in collaboration with non-profit organizations worldwide and awards prizes ranging from $1000-$15,000. In our first year, over 200 photographers from 63 different countries submitted work. This year, PhotoPhilanthropy will be honoring professional, amateur, and student photographers, and a new category for community-based organizations. The 2010 submissions are now open—we encourage you to apply! Change the world, one photo at a time!

Judging process
PhotoPhilanthropy is looking for photo essays that visually articulate the mission of a non-profit organization in a compelling manner. In order to be considered for acceptance to the PhotoPhilanthropy Activist Awards, all submissions will initially be reviewed for content and quality of imagery. PhotoPhilanthropy reserves the right to refuse any entry based on quality or content.
Once accepted, professional, amateur and student entries will be judged in two rounds. First, members of PhotoPhilanthropy and its advisors will review the essays and select the strongest to continue to a second round. In the second round, a panel of independent judges will review eligible entries and select the winners based upon the following criteria:
• Originality
• Innovative and compelling story telling
• Relevance in portraying the issues addressed by the organization
• Visual Impact (composition, emotional impact)
• Technical execution (focus, exposure)
