Competition: new logo for the artists' group SHOK

Who are we?
SHOK is an artists' group composed of art photographers from the Nordic countries. Our current members come from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland, and are mostly young artists on the way up who are full of fresh ideas. SHOK is based in Copenhagen.
We aim to promote photography and video in the public sphere, so that people who do not have an interest in the traditional art world also have the chance to experience contemporary art's cutting edge media. SHOK therefore often operates outside the boundaries of the traditional gallery scene, for example by showing in parks and squares, at events such as film and theatre festivals, and by printing small photo books. Though this does not prevent us from exhibiting in galleries from time to time.

As a Nordic network we aim to collaborate across national boundaries in order both to learn from one another's traditions, and to present the breadth and diversity of them. We do not represent one particular school or style of photography, rather, each member is encouraged to give free reign to their particular method of artistic expression. At the same time, we offer each other open and honest critique in the common interest of developing each other's individual talents and improving SHOK as a group.

Expectations for our logo
SHOK requires a new logo that can brand our organisation, be it at exhibitions, in book format, on flyers, or on the web. Because our members do not represent one specific school of photography but a variety of styles, it is important that our logo is very distinct and easily recognisable: the logo must collect in people's consciousness the breadth of artistic expression through instant recognition of its graphic expression.
We expect proposals for a logo to fulfil the following criteria:
  • to feature the word SHOK
  • that it can be employed in all forms of visual expression and types of media, from our website, to publications, to large photographic prints.
  • that it can be integrated into our existing website design (see www.shok.dk).
  • it must be presented in two versions: one with and one without the URL www.shok.dk
The logo should thus through a combination of colour, typography etc. clearly signal our artist collective in an easily recognisable way.

The design should be accompanied by a short explanatory text which describes the principle thoughts and ideas behind the design.

Poster exhibition
The logo will be launched in June 2009 in connection with a poster exhibition in Copenhagen's public spaces, in which the logo will be printed on all the posters.

Prize

The winning design will be awarded a 2000 DKK ($350) gift voucher for amazon.com.
SHOK reserves the right not to choose a winner.

Format

The design should be sent as a vector-based EPS file.

Deadline
The design must be sent to us before 3 May 2009.
The design should be original and never previously made public.
The design and short explanatory text should be sent to info@shok.dk, or on a CD-ROM to:
