Holts Academy of Jewellery NVQ course

This vocational-based course has been devised in consultation with the Jewellery Industry to establish basic techniques and tool handling skills, using a building block system of skills acquisition.

The NVQ Level 2 Course is an 8 month, 2 days per week, competency based programme designed as a comprehensive introduction to Jewellery Manufacture. Lead by the finest craftsmen the UK has to offer, this course aims to produce multi-skilled graduates who have demonstrable competence in jewellery construction who adhere to sound workshop practice.

We aim to have graduates absorbed into the industry or independently work in their own studio/workshop.

74% of graduates (completing in March 2010) are now employed or self-employed within the Jewellery Industry.

Course Structure
The skills taught are the combination of traditional techniques found in workshops worldwide and are also accumulated personal techniques of the Academy’s team of industry-professional tutors.

All lessons are practical and hands on, taking place in modern, fully equipped workshops in the heart of the UK Jewellery Industry – London’s Hatton Garden.

What Our Students Say
“I didn’t want to study a full length degree or go to university – I wanted to learn some real skills that would carry me forward to the workplace. It is a fast-paced, exciting and incredibly rewarding environment. Holts Academy is a must for any budding jeweller.” R. Stubberfield, 2009

“It was important for me to find a course where I would learn from the ground up, yet have the space to work in my own style. The projects on the NVQ course are set, so we all work on the same piece, but this all-owed me to learn all of the techniques – and more – that I needed. I then was able to take this and apply it to my own style.” C. King, 2010

”The NVQ provided me with the skills and knowledge that I needed to apply for an apprenticeship. Even before I started on the course I was most interested in stone setting and that was the part I enjoyed the most. With very few apprenticeships available now, I was able to prove my abilities by having the qualifications.” S. Webb, 2010

Funding & Fees

The fees for this programme are £0 - £5432, depending on funding eligibility.

NVQs are fully supported by the UK Government and are subsequently heavily funded. Most EU residents qualify for 50% funding, up to 100%, depending on your personal circumstances and age.

Course Dates & Applications
Courses are scheduled to run from September 2010. Due to the level of funding available and regularity of classes, application deadlines are open. If you wish to apply for a specific start date it is advisable to contact a member of the admissions team to discuss when your application should be made.
