FDC Young Designer Awards, ‘Homage to a Fashion Leader’
Fashion Designers and Craft makers (FDC) ‘Young Designer Awards’ takes place Saturday 31st October 2009, 4pm at The Novotel London Hotel St. Pancras 100-110 Euston Road London NW1 2AJ.
Young designers from all over the UK who have excelled creatively and have the potential to be the next big stars of the international fashion stage, will be competing for the coveted and very special International Young Designer Award (formerly the Tyler Media Youth Award) which will be presented by Christie Dinham CEO of The International Designer Show USA and Juanita Grey, Fashion Director and Founder of Fashion Girls Production.
The winner will be given the opportunity to showcase a debut collection in New York Fashion Week or Caribbean Fashion, to an audience of international fashion journalists, photographers and buyers.
The FDC Young Designer Awards and the International Young Designer Award aim to nurture raw talent, and encourage outstanding young people to follow their dreams by offering the chance of a successful place in the fashion world.
The FDC Young Designer Awards was founded by London based Knitwear Designer, Joanna Marcella whose aim is to increase the number and visibility of young and exceptionally gifted multi-cultural designers, and to encourage them to reach their true potential and become as high profile as, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen or Vivienne Westwood.
Joanna says, “There are some extremely talented young people in our communities, who deserve this opportunity. The brief this year is to produce an Avant-Garde outfit inspired by the work or life of a well known or high profile fashion leader, such as, Christian Lacroix, Jasper Conran, John Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld, Mathew Williamson, Stella McCartney, Oswald Boateng or Paul Smith, we are confident our young designers can rise to the challenge and produce the most flamboyant garments.”
This event was founded to nurture raw talent, and encourage outstanding young people to follow their dreams by offering the chance of a successful place in the fashion world. Being selected as a winner of the awards is just the beginning, after the ceremony a support system that addresses all aspects of a developing career is set in motion. The winner has the opportunity to learn about the business, meet key people and finesse his or her skills, as well as displaying a debut collection in New York Fashion Week or Caribbean Fashion Week, to an audience of international fashion journalists, photographers and buyers.
Joanna continues “This is the only fashion design awards in the UK, which has given several young British Designers who are still studying for their fashion degrees, an opportunity to showcase in New York Fashion Week and Caribbean Fashion Week. It such a shame that we do not get the same support from companies here in the UK, this project is a unique and precious gem, we urge those who can, individuals and companies to support us in anyway they can, attending this special event will help to make the FDC Young Designer Awards a world wide success.”
International Opportunity for a model with the X Factor
This Year the awards is hosting the International Model Search which is sponsored by Fashion Girls Production. the International Model Search is set up to find an outstanding, striking and statuesque male and female model who will win a trip to New York to model in the International Designer Show in New York Fashion Week or Jamaica at Caribbean Fashion Week and will be introduced to top modelling agents and photographers during the trip.
