Decibel Performing Arts Showcase 2009 - Call for Entries
The decibel Performing Arts Showcase is an Arts Council England initiative that offers a snapshot of Britain's culturally diverse performing arts talent to international arts professionals. The purpose of the decibel Performing Arts Showcase is to encourage diverse practice in the performing arts sector. Produced with the support of x.trax, the showcase aims to more fully represent and reflect the different cultures and backgrounds that make our country unique in the world.
The fourth decibel Performing Arts Showcase 2009 builds on the achievements of the past showcases, providing the opportunity for artists and companies to present their work to an international audience of promoters, artistic directors, producers and presenters who may book their work or collaborate with them to develop it further.
Artists and companies involved in previous showcases have benefited from a range of opportunities, developing pitches into fully-fledged work, touring internationally and broadening and deepening their contacts in the industry. Past successes stories include Kompany Malakhi, an innovative dance theatre company who took part in the 2007 showcase, resulting in a number of venues booking their Boxin work, with a national tour scheduled this year. decibel’s international reach is also evident, with Rasa Theatre making important US contacts at the Showcase, and achieving a sold-out run in a leading New Jersey theatre.
Previous delegate, Kerry Michael, Artistic Director, Theatre Royal Stratford East, said: “Discovering work at the decibel Performing Arts Showcase helps us to continue to champion the rich diverse talent that the UK has to offer.”
Artists and companies working at the cutting edge of music, theatre, dance, live art, circus, street arts and sited work are invited to submit their applications by 21 January 2009. Application packs are available from the website www.decibelpas.com . A number of artists’ surgeries will be taking place across the UK to help showcase applicants to put together their applications.
