Concrete & Glass - Call for Photographers and Artists

Concrete & Glass - Call for Photographers and Artists

Event Date: 2 october 2008

Closing Date: 20 September 2008

From 2nd - 16th October 2008 The Concrete and Glass festival will be taking over Shoreditch, from Hoxton to Whitechapel. This is a unique event comprising of 50 alternative site exhibitions, 18 music venues, 100 bands and numerous local gallery exhibitions.

On the Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd, bars, clubs and galleries will be holding arts and music events open to all who purchase wrist bands; the event format is similar to the Camden Crawl or South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. The subsequent two weeks will then see the arts exhibitions continue on, running into the â Friezeâ arts weekend and further on into late October.

The event is also heavily backed, partners include; Time Out, Hackney and Tower Hamlets Council, Saatchi Online and more. Tom Baker of Eat Your Own Ears is directing the music over the venues with Rough Trade East as the focal point.

Through The Pane

Through The Pane is a photography portrait competition where images are displayed in shop windows around the area. Visitors are asked to seek out the shops to vote for their favourite. The Prize is £500 and the winner is, simply enough, the one with the most votes and anyone who voted goes into a draw for a framed print of their choice.

Photographic Portraiture Artwork: If you already produce printed work, ready for sale and would like to be involved please include print size and hanging information.

Photographic Portraiture Commercial: Commercial photography is clearly an integral part of Shoreditch. We are also seeking photographers who have images in their portfolio, that would make a strong printed piece and, on this occasion, who would simply benefit from having their name and work featured in the exhibition.

Other Artworks: Many of the shops are kindly allowing space to show other artworks, so we are also looking for a range of submissions, including paintings and other framed works, as well as sculpture, to display over the festival. If you would like to be involved, please get in touch.
