Civil Unrest, Old Vic

Civil Unrest is a mixed arts event created as a response to the UK's current political and social crisis. A mêlée of food, film, photography, design, illustration, graphics, architecture and theatre all aimed to create an atmosphere of political fervour. With the award winning Ben Ellis' brand new play Unrestless as the night’s centrepiece. House of Jonn, Creatives in Residence at The Hospital Club conjure a sensational reconstructed correctional canteen and performance space, complete with; metal trays, rowdy inhabitants and oppressive wardens. There dinner ticket-holders (£25) will eat a delicious produce-inspired meal using 100% UK ingredients devised by Mark Jankel and The Food Initiative. Whilst free ticket-holders will be herded through body scans guarded by Alsatians into a suspended prison gallery where Visual artists; kennardphillips, Brian David Stevens, John Godwin, Jonathan Warren, Guy Smallman, Fil Kaler and Marc Vallée will provide a feast for the eyes. Contraband Courvoisier Punch will be served to guests by disgruntled prison guards from canteen trolleys as audience members are led from the Civil Unrest performance space to live political debates. Where speakers from independent, radical publishing house Verso Books and infamous Front Line Club will embark on an audience fuelled topical discussion.
