Catch 22 is a youth media social enterprise

WHO WE ARE
Catch 22 is a youth media social enterprise. This simply means we are a business supporting young people wanting a media career and we are focused on social change. Our profits are therefore reinvested back into the company.
We launched in March 2007.

WHAT WE DO
We are always looking to recruit young people who are passionate about the
journalism industry, but lack the right opportunities.
Run in collaboration with some of the biggest magazine and newspaper publishers in the UK and in partnership with the London College of Communication, our Journalism Training Academy aims to give young people a thorough grounding in the basics of journalism. It includes a 12-week introduction course, an opportunity to contribute to our commercial magazine and the potential to do a one-month internship based at one of our industry partners.

This opportunity is worth its weight in gold for any adult (18-30) seeking a bridge into the printed press industry. The programme is primarily targeting
those that have been excluded from such opportunities due to their social profile and/or because they are from a disadvantaged background. Our objective is to secure our students with entry-level employment in the media industry and/or a place in higher education.

Our media partners provide bursaries to cover the majority of students’ tuition
fees, and they include: Bauer Media, BBC Mags, Centaur, Conde Nast, Emap
Business, Economist, Hachette, Haymarket, Incisive Media, John Brown
Publishing, NatMags, Redwood, Trinity Mirror, Wanderlust Magazine and William Reed.
Key entry criteria include: hunger, enthusiasm and the determination to stick it
out! If a place is confirmed, students pay a £50 cash deposit which is refunded at the end of the programme to those with an attendance rate of 80% or more. The course runs four times a year and we seek to engage each student for 12
months.

IN ADDITION…
Our magazine provides opportunities for journalists in the early stages of their
career to get their work published. Catch 22 has a circulation of 25,000 and is
distributed in outlets with a high traffic of young progressive Londoners.
We also offer paid opportunities for young graphic designers, illustrators,
photographers and journalists through our communications agency, which in turn provides clients access to raw undiscovered talent capable of executing to a professional standard.
