Bedford Creative Arts Studio Opportunity
Studios are available primarily for visual artists; with the aim of providing a
supportive environment for artists to develop and grow their practice in Bedfordshire.
All studios have natural light and heating, five have running water and wide gauge sinks suitable for plaster and oils.
The building is fully accessible, excepting two of the upstairs studios, there is a 410kg service lift and parking is available on site.
Studios are sized from 100 to 255 sq feet and cost from £140 to £235 per month.
Rents shown include all costs except electricity which is billed separately. Each studio is individually metered for electricity. WiFi is available throughout the building.
This development is one of a number of initiatives which Bedford Creative Arts is involved in which aims to develop a strong local arts programme and a range of opportunities for people to both develop their careers as artists and also to experience and take part in a lively creative culture.
The funding for i-Create studios refurbishment was provided by Bedford Borough Council and The East of England Development Agency, (EEDA). These funders require that the studios are used for particular purposes, and artists fulfilling that criteria will be prioritised. Therefore selection will be through application and a short informal interview. The studios will be allocated by a selection panel to include:
Jacques Rogers, Artist and Outpost Gallery, Norwich
John Stevens, Head of Art and Design, University of Bedfordshire
Lotte Juul Petersen, Artists and Programmes Curator, Wysing Arts Centre
Dawn Giles, Director, Bedford Creative Arts
Catherine Hemelryk, Artist Programmes Manager, Bedford Creative Arts
The panel will base their selection on the following four key criteria:
1. The quality of your work (in whatever media)
2. Willingness to develop and grow your practice and engage in a critical
dialogue
3. That this is the right opportunity for your practice at this time
4. What you can contribute to the artistic community of i-Create Studios
To apply please submit:
o Up to ten images, or CDs/DVDs of your work
o A statement on your practice and a CV
o A description of why you would like a studio at i-Create and what you could
bring to the studios.
o Additional supporting material such as catalogues, copies of press cuttings
etc may also be included
Artists wishing to submit a full application via MP3 files or DVDs (therefore not
requiring any written text) are welcome to do so.
The deadline for applications to be received is Wednesday 21st July 2010.
Interviews will be on the following Wednesday 28th, where possible we will try
to arrange at a time to suit all applicants.
