Alive Seeks 5 Artists!

Our hope is that the sculptures of the Alive! Project will provide a lens to the power of nature as a living breathing organism, and that in return the landscape will shape a greater more positive connection to contemporary art - a thing notoriously difficult to understand.
We would like to invite 5 artists to immerse themselves in and respond to the park and develop a work inspired by the Alive! Project .
We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who would like to create a water based sculpture and are looking for artists who would be prepared to run workshops with young people. With its international audience and with the cultural inheritance and emergence that surrounds it, Camley park is a fabulously placed space for an artists work to be seen and experienced. Camley Park is surrounded on all sides by rich heritage and culture.
If you are able to visit the park for inspiration it would be ideal; alternatively you can visit the website: http://bit.ly/bs6wkA

Camley park would like the sculptures to be in keeping with the mission of the London Wildlife Trust and be sensitive to the environment and wildlife that live and breed in it.
The exhibition will be on for two weeks, starting on the 18th of June and ending on the 2nd of July 2011.

Please send your proposals to aliandfran@gmail.com . All proposals to
be received by mid May.

The entire proposal selection will be made via email communication (aliandfran@gmail.com). We may wish to contact you so please leave a telephone number. We will want to meet the artists once they have been shortlisted, to discuss the commission. Artist will be chosen with a close eye as to their sensitivity towards to Alive! projects mission statement laid out in our call for proposals. They will be chosen by Alison Chadwick, Francesca Nannini ( co Curators ) in collaboration with Phil Paolo, Area Manager of London Wildlife trust for Camden. The panel will decide where within the site the commission will be best placed for maximum impact, for minimum disruption to the wildlife and for public safety.

Once the artists have been chosen they will be contacted, and the specifics of the contract will be drawn up. It should be known at this stage that within the contract it will be said that regrettably there will be no fee, no installation or decommission costs, no insurance, no travel fees. The pieces will be exhibited in the park at the artists' risk, however the park is fairly safe as it is staffed during the day and gated at night.

The installation must be brought to the venue in the week prior to the opening of the exhibition by the artist using the main access road and main gates at Camley park, with installation to be complete by 5 pm on 17th ready for opening night on 18th. This will be coordinated closely by Fran and Ali and as much assistance as possible will be given.

We are hoping to run workshops with young people. Again, there will be no fee and the artist are asked to do this on a voluntary basis which will be a useful addition tho their CV. The schools will be provided by Camley Park who have close links with schools and young offenders in the area.

What we can offer is a central London venue, Advertising, Invites for the opening night, and an opportunity for the work to be seen by the public - an international and local audience and by people in the arts and a credit to your cv.
